Arthur L. Lewis, age 87, a resident of Vienna, Illinois passed away Thursday morning, August 14, 2014, at 10:53 a.m. at his home.
Arthur was born January 12, 1927 in Stonefort, Illinois. He was the son of Ralph H. Lewis and Ida Mae (Martin) Lewis.
On August 9, 1947, Arthur was united in marriage to Colleen Taylor in Harrisburg. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2014.
Arthur is survived by: his sons – Terry Lewis of Vienna, Keith (Ruthanne) Lewis of Tunnel Hill, and Kent (Jodi) Lewis of Boonville, Indiana; 7 grandchildren – Matthew C. Lewis, Micah S. Lewis, Joey Ann (Keith “Weiner”) Francis, M. Daniel Lewis, Phillip C. Lewis, Amanda C. (Kenny) Thomas, and Kody A. Nering; 2 great grandsons – Tucker Francis and Tyler D. Francis; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Arthur was preceded in death by: a daughter-in-law – Judy Lewis; a great granddaughter – Mahalie Deann Francis; 5 sisters, 2 brothers and 2 step brothers.
Arthur was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman 2nd Class.
Arthur was a farmer. He also was employed for 36 years by Union Carbide/Lockheed Martin in Paducah. He first worked in the roads & grounds department, later working in the converter shop, then with the maintenance department. Arthur retired on December 31, 1988.
Arthur and Colleen had been faithful and devoted members of the Faith Harvest Assembly Church in Vienna. Previously, they were members of the Gospel Mission Tabernacle in Golconda.
Arthur enjoyed reading and working with his hands.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, August 17, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at Faith Harvest Assembly, 202 E. Main St., Vienna, Illinois. Pastor Richard Swiney will officiate. Burial will be in the Joyner Cemetery near Stonefort. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222 and U.S. Naval Personnel.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Faith Harvest Assembly Church.
