Vienna High School welcomed an estimated 500 people on Saturday, July 12, into the new gymnasium to celebrate and raise money for Matt’s Hats.

Matt’s Hats hosted their third annual We Remember Concert at 6 p.m., featuring Christian artists from across the U.S. and locally. Bands played and raised money for Childhood Cancer Research at St. Jude’s and for Matt’s Hats nonprofit organization.

7eventh Time Down, Everfound, From Ashes, and About a Mile performed as well as speakers that shared their experience with childhood cancer.

Matt Williams, the 17 year old founder of Matt’s Hats, was optimistic about the experience. “We are still receiving donations and it definitely gave us some great exposure!”

He said, “It was awesome to be a part of and see it come together. We had the support of so many local people as well as people that travelled from as far as three hours away.”

The event, which started in July of 2012 to honor Cristina Botello, has gained local recognitio

n through fundraisers and events such as “We Remember”.

The organization is already looking forward to next year’s event. You can still donate to Matt’s Hats by visiting www.mattshats.org.
