Hinton elected SIEA president

Hinton_MetroLonnie Hinton, publisher of The Vienna Times and Goreville Gazette, was elected president of the Southern Illinois Editorial Association (SIEA) Friday, April 25, during the organization’s annual spring meeting at Giant City Lodge. He replaces outgoing president Gary Metro, editor of the Southern Illinoisan, in the one-year term as president. 

Hinton, left in photo, presented a plaque of appreciation to Metro at the conclusion of the meeting and thanked him for his dedication to the organization. 

SIEA is comprised of newspaper owners and professionals in the 54 southernmost counties of Illinois, from the I-72 corridor south. Hinton has served on the board of directors for three years. 

Other members of SIEA’s 2014-15 officers include: Jeff Egbert, Pinckneyville, first vice-president; David Porter, Lebanon, secretary; Jerry Reppert, Anna, treasurer; William Freivogel, Carbondale, executive secretary; past president Gary Metro; John Galer, Hillsboro; Julie Boren, Pittsfield; Duane Crays, Albion; Areia Hathcock, Metropolis; Greg Bilbrey, Robinson and Todd Eshmann, Belleville.
