Thomas Ray Haupt, 70, a resident of rural Ozark, Illinois, passed away Sunday evening, February 23, 2014, at 10:55 p.m. at his home.
Tom was born July 29, 1943 in Buffalo, New York. He was the son of Foster and Helen Shirley (Skinner) Haupt.
Tom was united in marriage to Wanda M. (Gass) Haupt on April 4, 1964 in Hammond, Indiana. She survives.
Other survivors include: 2 sons – Terrence R. (Tracy) Haupt and Christopher J. Haupt; 4 grandchildren – Terrence Haupt, Kimberly Haupt, Michael Haupt, Kristin Earls; 2 brothers – Timothy Haupt and Stephen Haupt both of Florida; a niece and 2 nephews – Kirsten Haupt, Devon Haupt, and Corey Haupt.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister Sherry Haupt Dorman.
Tom was a graduate of Alliance High School in Alliance, Ohio. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably for 23 years. Tom was a Vietnam War veteran and received two Purple Hearts. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1981 with the rank of E7. Tom also worked in logistics for the Department of Defense, serving both the Army and Air Force. He also served as an electronics and mathematics instructor at the College of Lake County.
Tom was a member of Vienna Masonic Lodge #150 AF&AM. Tom enjoyed working on and building computers for family and friends. He was also an avid outdoorsman and hunter.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
A Masonic service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Bailey Funeral Home, immediately followed by a military flag presentation performed by the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail and Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222.
