Area Scout leaders honored by council

In addition to presenting awards to its volunteers, District Chairman Dale Ritzel introduced the new Kaskakskia District Executive, DeMarcus Huddleston.  He is an Eagle Scout and a recent graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.

Those honored with awards were:

Rookie of the Year – Beth Caraker of Pack 41,  chartered by the First Baptist Church, Vienna.

Commissioner of the Year – Daniel Rockwell,  Vienna.

Rookie of the Year – Susan Walch-Pimental, Pack 251, chartered by the Grace United Methodist Church, Carbondale.

Den Leader of the Year – Amy Wright, Pack 251, chartered by the Grace United Methodist Church, Carbondale.

Den Leader of the Year- Tim Pohlman, Pack 251, chartered by the Grace United Methodist Church, Carbondale.

Cubmaster of the Year – Trina Thomas, Pack 37, chartered by The View, First Baptist Church, Carbondale.

Scoutmaster of the Year – Alan Brandenburg, Troop 66, chartered by the First Methodist Church, Carbondale.

Scout Family of the Year – The Steve and Linda Buhman Family. Steve is the Scoutmaster for Troop 4,  and a Committee Member of Crew 4, both of Murphysboro. His wife, Linda, is a Committee Member of Troop 4. They both staffed on the Home Town News division at the National Jamboree.  Their son, Michael, is an Eagle Scout, and daughter, Amy, is a member of Crew 66 in Carbondale.

Scouter of the Year – Clay Ahlfield, Troop 4, chartered by the Knights of Columbus #988, Murphysboro. Clay was the Scoutmaster of the Southern Illinois National Jamboree Troop A247, which attended the Boy Scout Jamboree at the Summit in West Virginia in July.

District Award of Merit – Cathy Schmidt, Crew 4, chartered by St. Andrews Church, Murphysboro. The District Award of Merit is presented for distinguished service to youth and it is the highest award presented by the District.
