Candelia Rose Champion, 66, a resident of Linden, Tennessee and a former resident of Tunnel Hill, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, January 10, 2014, at 10:10 a.m. at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee.
Candy was born July 21, 1947 in Ozark, Illinois. She was the daughter of Kenneth & Kathleen (Funk) Cagle.
Candy was formerly united in marriage to Larry Champion. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: her daughters – Colette D. (Benjamin) Loosey of Linden, TN and Cathryn L. Craig of New Burnside; 5 Grandchildren – Daniel Wayne Griffin, Jr, Emily Louise Griffin, Colton Garrett Bowles, Jordan Russell Craig, and Clara Rose Craig; and a sister – C. Rene Henning of Lake Matthews, CA.
In addition to her parents and husband, Candy was preceded in death by a son Nathan R. Champion, a son-in-law – David Craig, a brother – Steve Cagle, and a sister – Paulette Fields.
Candy had been employed as a cook for Ingram Barge Co. She enjoyed sewing, making handcrafted crochet items, and reading mystery and fiction novels. She particularly enjoyed the work of Stephen King, Sue Grafton, and Dean Koontz.
Candy is remembered for her love of animals and her “great maternal instincts for wildlife.”
Visitation will be held Friday evening, January 17, 2014, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be at a later date in the Woodside Cemetery, near Tunnel Hill, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
