Alice Ross, age 83 years, a resident of Springfield, Illinois and a former resident of Tunnel Hill, Illinois, passed away Monday afternoon, January 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Regency Nursing Home in Springfield, Illinois.
Alice was born April 3, 1930 in Stonefort, Illinois . She was the daughter of Benjamin “Ben” Murrow and Nola Mae (Tally) Murrow.
Alice was united in marriage to Charles Lloyd Ross on December 31, 1951. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2006.
Survivors include her children – Diane Ross of Springfield, IL, Keith & Johnny Ross of Houston, TX, and Dennis & Kathy Ross of Springfield, IL; 2 granddaughters – Jessika (Justin) Savage of Chicago, IL and Jennifer Ross of Edwardsville, IL; and a sister – Mildred (Bill Dean) Oliver of Palatka, FL.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by: 7 sisters – Blanche Black, Pauline Stucker, Marie Whitlock, Lorene Anderson, Wanda Murray, Betty Frothingham and Dorothy Oliver; 2 brothers – Howard “Fuzz” Murrow and Robert Murrow; and 2 infant brothers.
Alice was a faithful Christian and was devoted to serving her Lord. During the time the family resided in the St. Louis area, they were members of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeton, Missouri. Following their retirement and return to Southern Illinois, Lloyd and Alice were active members of Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna. Alice was a former Sunday School teacher and had been involved in many facets of service and church governance during her membership both in Bridgeton and in Vienna.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday morning, January 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Reynoldsburg Cemetery. Pastor Russ Kreuter will officiate. There will be no public visitation.
Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at approximately 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
