Update on Johnson County escapee

JUAN+DIEGOThe 20-year-old hispanic man that escaped from Johnson County’s custody Sunday morning has still not been located.

Two sightings since his disappearance, the first one Monday evening between Vienna and West Vienna, and the second Wednesday in West Vienna, cause local officials to believe he is still in the area.

Juan Diego (his unconfirmed name) was reportedly last seen at Fruit Belt Service Company at West Vienna at around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Officials believe he stole a bicycle at West Vienna that had a flat tire, later abandoned it and stole another bike.

The sheriff’s department reports, “This subject is now riding a girls purple and pink mountain bike. He is wanting to go to Alabama. He is wearing a child like back pack and we believe a red shirt. Remember this guy is a 20 yr old but he is very short and slim. So he could look very much like a child on a bicycle.” His direction of travel is not known.

Diego speaks very little English. Officials do not think the subject is armed or dangerous at this time.

Diego was arrested for burglary of Yarbor’s Store, located on Tunnel Hill Road, Saturday evening. The store has been closed for several weeks, with limited-to-no inventory remaining in it.

Anyone spotting this man is asked to call 911 immediately.
