Fatal accident on I-24 near Vienna Thursday morning

Illinois State Police, Johnson County Ambulance Service and Vienna Fire Department responded Thursday morning to the scene of a fatal two-car crash on Interstate 24, eastbound at milepost 12 near Vienna.

The accident was reported at approximately 7:50 a.m. with emergency crews on the scene shortly thereafter.

According to Illinois State Police, passenger Caitlyn Devlin, 27, of Alpharetta, Ga., was pronounced dead at the scene by Johnson County coroner David Rockwell while driver Ian Devlin, also of Alpharetta, received incapacitating injuries and was flown by Air Evac to an Evansville, Ind. hospital.

Fred Singleton, 72, and Jacquelyn Schneider, 70, both of Highland, Ill., were not injured.

Singleton, the driver of a black 2013 Chrysler 300, speaking with The Vienna Times at the scene of the accident, said he and Schneider were traveling eastbound when his car was struck from the rear.

The silver 2005 Honda Civic, driven by Ian Devlin, then ran off the right shoulder hitting two trees, according to ISP.

The accident is still under investigation by Illinois State Police.
