2013 Union County Fair planned in Anna

Fair time is here.The 133rd Union County Fair is scheduled to begin with activities on Friday, Aug. 16. The fair continues through Sunday, Aug. 25.

Once again this year, the fair will take place at the Anna City Park.

Here’s a look at the schedule of events.

Friday, Aug. 16

Open show registration is scheduled at the fair office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exhibits are not to be brought, only tags will be given out.

A garden tractor pull is scheduled at 7 p.m. at the horse show arena.

Team roping is set for 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand.

Saturday, Aug. 17

Saturday is a Children’s Day at the fair. Children are admitted free to the fair all day.

Entries will be taken in the fair office for a junior horse show from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. The show is set for 9 a.m. in the junior horse show arena.

Junior entry registration will begin at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Participants are asked to bring their exhibit items with them.

From 9 am. until 4 p.m., open show registration is scheduled at the fair office. Participants are asked not to bring exhibits since they cannot be placed in the exhibit hall until Monday.

Also at 9 a.m. is the FFA livestock show in the junior show area.

Harness racing and mule and pony races will take place in front of the grandstand starting an noon.

The entry office will be closed for junior entries at 3 p.m. to prepare for judging.

Judging for junior classes N and P and ages 5-8 will be judged in the exhibit hall at 4 p.m.

A gaited and western horse show is planned in front of the grandstand at 6 p.m.

The midway carnival will be open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 18

A Union County Fair car show is scheduled from noon until 6 p.m.

The junior exhibit area will be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the exhibit hall.

A community worship service is planned in the grandstand from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The carnival will be open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Union County Fair queen pageant begins at 7:30 p.m. in the grandstand.

Monday, Aug. 19

Open registration is planned at the fair office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants are asked to bring exhibit items. Junior livestock registration also is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Harness racing and mule/pony racing begin at noon in front of the grandstand. Admission is free.

A junior tractor operators contest is set for 3 p.m. on the infield in front of the grandstand.

Junior exhibits will be on display from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the exhibit building.

Sale cattle weigh-in is planned at 5 p.m.

The carnival is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A meeting for all junior livestock exhibitors is set for 7 p.m. in the barn area. All participants are required to attend.

A Shawnee Hills Music Jamboree is set for 7:30 p.m. in the grandstand.

Tuesday, Aug. 20

Open class, livestock and exhibit judging is at 8 a.m.

At 9 a.m., a 4-H livestock show is planned in the junior show arena.

Mule/donkey halter classes take center stage at the heavy horse and mule barn at 10 a.m. A heavy horse show will follow at 1 p.m.

The exhibit building will be open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The carnival is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Peewee showmanship is planned at 6 p.m. in the junior show arena.

Championship rodeo action is planned in front of the grandstand beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 21

Junior swine and sheep judging are planned in the junior show arena at 9 a.m., as is open dairy judging.

Junior livestock beef judging starts at 1 p.m. in the junior show arena.

The exhibit building will be open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The carnival is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m., a tractor pull is planned in front of the grandstand.

Thursday, Aug. 22

Another Children’s Day is planned. Ride arm bands for children will be discounted.

Today also is Veterans Day at the fair. All veterans who show veterans organization membership cards or are wearing a veterans’ organization cap will be admitted free to the fair.

The exhibit building will be open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A junior livestock auction will begin at 6 p.m. in the junior show arena.

The carnival is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

ICAW wrestling is planned at 7:30 p.m. in front of the grandstand.

Friday, Aug. 23

The exhibit building open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The carnival is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A demolition derby is set for 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand.

Saturday, Aug. 24

The exhibit building will be open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The carnival is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A demolition derby is set for 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand.

Sunday, Aug. 25

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., exhibits are to be claimed in the exhibit building. Exhibitor checks are available in the fair office.
