The Vienna FFA is readily anticipating the arrival of June 11-13 for the chance to be among thousands of blue corduroy jackets in the state’s capital. The 85th Annual Illinois State FFA Convention kicks off with opening session the morning of June 11, 2013. Convention sessions are hosted in the Prairie Capital Convention Center, with sessions including opening, general, delegate, and closing sessions. For the delegate session, two members of the chapter are assigned as delegates, and attend the session in the evening for the opportunity to elect the new Illinois State FFA major officer team, getting the chance to meet many new people in the process. While in Springfield, the members will not only attend sessions of the convention, but they will also attend the annual FFA dance held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, tour the home of former President Abraham Lincoln, and tour the Old and New State Capital Buildings. One outing that members look forward to every year is the tradition of having dinner at Alexander’s Steakhouse, where customers can pick and cook their own steak. To wrap up convention, the closing session is held on the last day and bids ado to FFA members from across the State until next year, leaving them already anxious to see what the next Convention has in store.
