Donald Bruce Walter – Obituary

Donald Bruce Walter, 75, a resident of rural Vienna, Illinois, passed away Sunday afternoon March 17, 2013, at 3:45 p.m. at the Baptist Health Center in Paducah, Kentucky.

Donald Bruce was born on July 13, 1937 in the Pond Community in Johnson County, Illinois. He was the son of David Bruce Walter and Lois M. (McFatridge) Walter.

Donald Bruce was united in marriage to Edna (Trovillion) Walter on February 28, 2000 in Vienna. She survives.

Other survivors include his children, Penny Walter George and David Gibson of Vienna, Sherry Walter-Field and Dan of Vienna, and Doug and Julie Walter, all of Vienna.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lindsay, Jessica, Chelsea, Kelin, Laeytn, Amanda, Heather and Desiree, five great grandchildren; Mason, Kaiden, Mabel, Addison and Jaxon, and a son-in-law, Greg Deaton of Marion, Illinois.

His parents, a daughter, Kitty Deaton and a brother, Ray Walter preceded him in death.

Donald Bruce was a 1955 graduate of the Vienna High School and had attended Southern Illinois University and West Point.

Donald Bruce was a US Army Veteran.

Donald Bruce worked as the Johnson County Supervisor of Assessments from March 1, 1980 to March 31, 1997. He had also worked at the Anna State Hospital as a Psychiatric Aide.

Donald Bruce was a member of the N.R.A. and of the Masonic Fraternity. He was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed going hunting, fishing & camping. He also liked to travel. He also loved spending time with his family and especially cherished the time spent with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning March 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. David Faulkner will officiate.

Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. The Beggs- Gurley VFW and the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail will accord military Rites.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
