Mrs. Nell Bierman – Obituary

Nell Bierman, 75, a former resident of Vienna, Illinois, passed away Sunday morning, January 20, 2013, at 9:15 AM at SSM St. Clare Health Center in Fenton, Missouri.

Nell was born June 7, 1937 in Macon, Georgia.  She was the daughter of Clatus Berry Washburn and Pauline (Hill) Washburn.

Nell was united in marriage to Rev. Herbert W. Bierman on June 27, 1959 in Macon, Georgia.  He preceded her in death on August 21, 1985.

Nell is survived by:

Her children –     Cheryl L. (Del) Brookshier of Vienna, IL

Carol Yeomans of Calvert City, KY

Clatus B. (Connie) Bierman of Marion, IL

Dr. Nancy P. (Trent) Birner of Red Bud, IL

8 grandchildren – Miranda & Isabella Brookshier

Michael Yeomans

Clayton, Malia, & Seth Bierman

Patrick & Annelyse Birner

A sister – Hilda Sheffield of Macon, GA

Several nieces and nephews

In addition to her Parents and Husband, Nell was preceded in death by:

2 sisters – Elsie Taylor and Frances Washburn

2 brothers – Roy Washburn and Hubert Washburn

Nell was a graduate of the Women’s College of Georgia (formerly the Georgia State College for Women) at Millidgeville.  She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English with a minor in voice. Nell was an educator.  She taught English at Shawnee Community College, where she had also offered instruction in G.E.D. courses.  Nell had also taught through the M.A.P. Training Center, JAMP Education Center, and was a substitute teacher in the Vienna Public School system.

Nell had a deep love of music.  She was an accomplished vocalist and a former member of the Paducah Symphony. Nell loved artwork and enjoyed collecting antiques.  She is fondly remembered by her family for her love of baking.  She was a loving and devoted Wife, Mother, and Grandmother.  Nell also loved the companionship of her cats.

Nell was a faithful and devoted member of the Vienna First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women’s organization.

Funeral Services will be held Monday February 4, 2013 at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Vienna, Illinois. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 – 6PM Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
