City clerk gives 2-week notice

Vienna City Clerk, Virginia Monroe gave notice Tuesday morning, Nov. 27, of her intent to resign from the elected position in two weeks. Monroe was elected to the 4-year position in the 2009 consolidated election.

City councilman Greg Gordon told The Vienna Times Tuesday, “I received a call from (Monroe) this morning stating that she is giving her official resignation notice.”

“I knew she was not going to run again,” Gordon said. “But she said earlier that she intended to finish her term.”

Attempts by The Vienna Times to contact Monroe regarding her resignation have gone un-successful as of this posting.

The city clerk’s seat will be up for re-election in the April 2013 election, along with the mayor and three council seats. The council will be required to appoint someone to fill the clerk’s position until a newly elected city clerk takes office in May.
