Two-car crash near Simpson results in multiple injuries

The two vehicles involved in a Friday evening crash near Simpson were towed to Cagle’s in Vienna.

Illinois State Police District 22 personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, June 29 at approximately 9:40 p.m.

A 2006 red Ford pick-up truck, driven by Roy M. (Mike) Scarborough, age 63, of Simpson, was travelling northbound when his truck allegedly crossed the centerline into the southbound lane. A 1998 maroon Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by David R. Ramirez, age 20, of Metropolis, was struck as it attempted to avoid a collision with the pick-up truck.

The Eclipse was occupied by Ramirez and three others: Jasmine R. Reyna, age 20, of Metropolis; Jereme C. Parker, age 25, of Brookport; and, Olivia F. Ramirez, age 20, of Brookport.

Scarborough reportedly showed no indication of injury. David Ramirez was taken to Herrin Hospital by Pope County EMS with serious injuries. Parker and Olivia Ramirez were taken to Heartland Medical Center in Marion by Johnson County EMS with serious injuries. Reyna was air-lifted to an evansville, Indiana hospital with serious injuries.

One occupant required extraction from the vehicle by the Vienna Fire Department, according to fire chief Aaron Goldstein.

All parties involved were wearing seatbelts.

Scarborough was cited with improper lane usage, driving under the influence of alcohol, and aggravated DUI with bodily harm.

The crash is still under investigation.
